US President Joe Biden expressed his dissatisfaction with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to secure a prisoner deal with Hamas. Biden believes that a final agreement to release prisoners held by the Palestinian group is on the verge of completion.
According to the “Washington Post,” the US plans to present a final ceasefire agreement soon, with an ultimatum for the two sides to accept or reject it. Failure to comply could result in the end of American-led negotiations.
Biden’s comments follow the discovery of the bodies of six Israeli prisoners in Gaza, which led to protests against Netanyahu’s government. Hamas is reportedly still holding over 100 prisoners, some of whom may have already been killed.
Efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt to broker a prisoner exchange and cease-fire between Israel and Hamas have been hindered by Netanyahu’s reluctance to meet Hamas’ demands. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties and a humanitarian crisis.
Israel is currently facing genocide allegations before the International Court of Justice.
