Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Assembly Calls for Suspension of Railway Construction
The Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Assembly has taken a stand against the ongoing construction at the National Railway station (Sikka Hadid) premises, calling for its immediate suspension. This decision comes after a parliamentary assessment revealed that the area was being demarcated and allocated to private individuals.
The State ministers’ refusal to honor summons led the legislatures to form a committee to investigate the construction activities at the station. The committee, led by Buola Penyi Nyiadhe, found that the railway tracks had been removed, and the area was being developed without proper authorization.
Members of the assembly, including Natalina Idris Jano and James Giir Wol, expressed concerns over the lack of consultation regarding the future use of the site. Jano proposed that the area be reserved for public facilities like hospitals and schools, addressing the region’s essential needs.
As parliament takes action to protect public assets, the community is urged to remain calm while legal measures are pursued to address the issue.
