The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed the importance of using standard weighing scales in business transactions within the state. The scales, provided by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation, were distributed to market segments to ensure fair trade practices.
During the distribution ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Damaturu, the scales were handed over to traders’ associations and sharia committees from the 17 local government areas. Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana, representing Governor Buni, emphasized the need for honest transactions and preventing cheating.
By reintroducing weighing scales, the government aims to promote honesty and adherence to sharia standards in markets, especially during challenging economic times. The initiative was commended by Governor Buni for its aim to prevent exploitation of consumers for profit.
The Emir of Damaturu also praised the state government’s efforts to promote transparency in business transactions using weighing scales. Local sharia committees will oversee the proper implementation of the scales at grassroots levels.
