Retained Firefighters to Consider Proposed Pay Increases
Today, unions and Government representatives gathered at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) to address ongoing pay disputes with retained firefighters. In a breakthrough, a set of proposals was agreed upon that will be presented to the firefighters for consideration.
The proposed deal includes a guaranteed weekly income for firefighters, with new entrants starting at €483 per week and rising to €550 by year eight. Station officers would receive €667 per week, increasing to €752. These increases are tied to the existing public sector pay agreement and additional funding, to be implemented gradually over the lifetime of the service agreement.
Last year, approximately 2,000 retained firefighters launched industrial action for improved pay and conditions, leading to pickets at 200 fire stations. This action was halted in August 2023 when the WRC introduced plans for increased retainer payments and revised working hours.
