Caretaker administration refutes ex-PM Hasina’s claims; lifts ban on Jamaat-e-Islami party

The party, excluded from elections since 2013 for violating the secular constitution, plans to file a petition for registration restoration to contest future elections.
Accused of diverting attention from a crackdown by security forces, Hasina’s government imposed the ban just before her removal from power. Jamaat-e-Islami, founded in 1941, has faced persecution and convictions for crimes against humanity since 2013.
