Tragedy struck in Harrismith, Free State, as four bodies were discovered inside a burnt truck, prompting police to open an inquest docket. Authorities are now on the lookout for a missing person believed to have been traveling with the family.
The grim scene was found on a gravel road between Mabate and Tshiame B-Khalanyoni, with the truck completely charred. A passer-by who attempted to extinguish the flames alerted the police after spotting the bodies in the vehicle.
The investigation revealed that the truck belonged to a 35-year-old man from Makwane village in QwaQwa. He had allegedly gone to fetch his wife and three children from Tshiame B in Harrismith early in the morning, but they never made it home, with only four bodies recovered at the site.
An inquest docket has been opened, and the hunt is on for the missing person. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harrismith detective unit or Crime Stop.
