German police are on the hunt for an unidentified perpetrator responsible for a knife attack that left three dead and eight wounded at a festival in Solingen. Five individuals sustained serious injuries during the incident, which occurred last night around 9:40 p.m. The assailant targeted victims in the neck region, prompting authorities to investigate the incident as a potential terrorist attack.
In response to the attack, special police units armed with heavy weapons were dispatched to search for the culprit, leading to a city-wide operation. Residents have been advised to avoid the city center while the investigation unfolds. The festival, celebrating Solingen’s 650th anniversary in North Rhine-Westphalia, has been canceled as a precaution.
While Provincial Interior Minister Herbert Reul confirmed it was a targeted attack, the motive remains under scrutiny. The police are currently interrogating witnesses in an effort to identify the perpetrator and bring them to justice.
