In a recent development in Manipur, ten Kuki Zo legislators have called for the swift investigation by a judicial commission following the emergence of an alleged audio clip involving Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The commission, chaired by former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajai Lamba, was established last year to address ethnic violence in the state.
The Manipur government refuted the audio clip’s authenticity, attributing its release to an attempt to disrupt peace efforts. Authorities are currently probing the clip’s origins, particularly concerning comments on the state’s ethnic conflicts.
In a joint press release, the legislators demanded expedited proceedings and potential prosecution of Chief Minister N Biren Singh if found guilty. Additionally, they advocated for a separate administration for the Kuki Zo community to promote lasting peace in the region.
The lawmakers also noted the submission of additional leaked tapes to the Judicial Commission, suggesting further incriminating statements. This plea for swift action aims to ensure justice and prevent any undue influence on the investigation’s outcome.
