Israel’s relentless war on Gaza has sparked international outcry, with Hamas accusing the UK government of aiding Israel in its military operations in the besieged strip. The Palestinian group alleged that the UK’s intelligence gathering for Israel has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children.
Reports from Al Jazeera Arabic and Declassified UK revealed that both US and UK military flights were conducting surveillance missions over Gaza, assisting Israel in gathering intelligence on hostage situations. Despite mounting pressure, the UK’s Ministry of Defence defended its actions, stating that the Royal Air Force’s surveillance flights were aimed at locating hostages and ensuring compliance with international law.
However, critics have slammed the UK government for its continued arms exports to Israel, with a diplomat resigning over the issue. As the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, reaching 40,173 people killed and 92,857 wounded, the humanitarian crisis in the enclave worsens, leaving many areas in rubble.
It is time for the UK government to reassess its role in the conflict and prioritize the protection of innocent lives in Gaza.
