In Tunisia, pro-Palestine activists are facing death threats and assassination attempts, blaming authorities for yielding to “American pressure.” Last week, the Joint Coordination for Palestine reported potential assassination attempts targeting key figures within the anti-normalisation coalition. Activists Salah Al-Din Al-Masri, Khaled Boujemaa, and Saeed Bouajila were targeted for their vocal support of Palestinian resistance and opposition to American influence in Tunisia.
The absence of an anti-normalisation law has made resistance supporters vulnerable. President Kais Saied blocked a parliamentary vote on legislation criminalising normalisation with Israel, facing pressure from Washington. Despite speculation of a normalisation deal, Tunisia has no formal relations with Israel.
Protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza continue in Tunisia, with calls for a ceasefire. The Joint Coordination for Palestine remains steadfast in their activism despite threats, standing in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
“These threats target all activists who stand with the resistance. Our lives are no more important than the lives of our people in Palestine,” the coalition affirmed.
