Investing in a second home in Greece through the Golden Visa scheme seemed like a dream come true for a Turkish couple. However, the reality turned out to be a nightmare when they faced vandalism and threats from anarchist groups in the Exarchia neighborhood of Athens.
The couple, along with other foreign buyers who purchased apartments in the same building, found themselves under siege with their properties being vandalized and prohibited for use. The developer, Destiny Ependitiki MIKE, and its founder had faced accusations in the past, raising concerns about the area’s gentrification.
Despite their efforts to rent out or use the property, the couple faced continuous challenges and resistance from the anarchist groups. Even attempts to seek help from the police and government officials proved futile.
The situation escalated when the couple tried to engage with the anarchists directly, only to face more aggression and resistance. Feeling helpless and frustrated, they expressed their disbelief at how their investment turned into a nightmare.
It’s a cautionary tale of the risks involved in foreign property investments and the importance of thorough research and understanding of the local dynamics before making such decisions.
