A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, emphasized the importance of resolving all petitions arising from elections before the swearing-in of elected officials. During an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain suggested that this approach would strengthen and enhance Nigeria’s electoral process.
Chidoka advocated for the scanning of ballot papers and the appointment of election auditors to review election results. He highlighted the need for transparency by stating, “All petitions must be concluded before swearing-in to prevent any misuse of the electoral process. INEC should utilize its power to review results within seven days and cancel any inappropriate results.”
Furthermore, he called for the implementation of Election Offences Tribunals as recommended in the Justice Uwais report. By revisiting and implementing these recommendations, Chidoka believes that the integrity of the electoral system can be preserved.
