Residents of Riverlands faced a flash flood over the weekend, causing disruptions in the area. This event followed an earlier flood caused by dams bursting, prompting evacuations and support from the Swartland Local Municipality. The Department of Water and Sanitation also played a role in managing the situation by draining a fourth dam to prevent further risks.
The residents have now settled into a “new normal” as the water levels subside, allowing them to return to their homes. Although no injuries were reported, the community centers provided aid and assistance to affected residents. The Department of Water and Sanitation confirmed that the drained dam no longer posed a threat.
As the situation stabilizes, authorities urged residents to remain cautious of potential water flow during rainy weather. With necessary precautions in place, the region can now focus on recovery and rebuilding efforts following the recent floods.
