In an effort to enhance teaching and learning in schools, the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board has hired 5,500 teachers as per the directive of Governor Godwin Obaseki. The recruitment process was rigorous, with over 19,000 applications received for teaching positions in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
The selected candidates, chosen based on their skills and expertise, will work in various local government areas. This recruitment aligns with Governor Obaseki’s commitment to providing quality education in Edo State.
A notable aspect of the recruitment is that over 70% of EdoSTAR fellows, who were previously trainee teachers, have now been hired as full-time government teachers. They will receive a minimum wage salary and recently saw an increase in their salaries.
Of the 5,500 new hires, 2,500 will be permanent government teachers, and 3,000 will fill EdoSTAR positions, beginning a three-year fellowship program. Additionally, 125 experienced education managers will be recruited to support the EdoBEST program.
This initiative aims to continue improving educational outcomes for approximately 400,000 children in state-owned primary and junior schools in Edo State.
