Maduro Clashes with Lula Over Fresh Elections Proposal
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has rejected Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s suggestion of holding fresh elections to resolve the crisis following the disputed July 28 polls. Maduro emphasized the need for respecting Venezuela’s sovereignty and solving internal issues internally.
While Colombian President Gustavo Petro supported Lula’s proposal, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador preferred to let Venezuelan authorities find a solution. Maduro criticized external interference and highlighted the importance of handling domestic affairs independently.
Maduro also criticized the United States for allegedly meddling in Venezuela’s internal affairs and denying President Joseph Biden’s support for new elections. He firmly opposed foreign intervention in the country’s electoral processes.
