Iraq and Turkey have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost military and security cooperation, as well as counter-terrorism efforts. The MoU was signed by the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi, and the Turkish Minister of National Defense, Yasar Guler, in efforts to strengthen their relationship and commitment to regional peace and security.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, highlighted the importance of this agreement during a press conference in Ankara, Turkey. He mentioned that the MoU solidifies the two countries’ dedication to working together and addresses pressing security concerns in the region, including the Bashiqa camp in northern Iraq.
Expressing concern over escalating tensions and conflicts, Hussein emphasized Iraq and Turkey’s support for the ceasefire in Gaza. Despite ongoing aggression, both countries remain committed to peace and security in the region.
