After a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit Yeranos village on August 12, Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan and Martuni Mayor Hovhannes Hoveyan assessed the damages. No deaths were reported, but structural damages were significant.
Most 911 calls came from Yeranos, located near the epicenter. Governor Sargsyan and Mayor Hoveyan inspected the public school, damaged apartments, and other affected areas such as Vardadzor, Dzoraghbyur, Tsakkar, and more. The quake mainly caused cracks in older structures, sparing newer buildings.
Sargsyan urged officials to quickly evaluate damages and form a commission for relief efforts. He emphasized the importance of promptly addressing material losses and ensuring no human casualties.
Efforts are underway to determine the full extent of damages and secure necessary resources for recovery.
