Doctors, postgraduate medics, and medical teachers in Kerala are set to protest in government medical colleges against the recent sexual assault and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor in a Kolkata hospital. The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the safety of women doctors working night and emergency shifts. They urged governments to ensure a safe working environment for medical professionals.
The association announced joining a nationwide protest for workplace safety, with demonstrations planned at all Government Medical Colleges in Kerala. Dr. Rosenara Beegum, the state president of the association, highlighted the importance of creating a fear-free work atmosphere for doctors, PG students, and medical staff.
This protest comes in the wake of the tragic incident in Kolkata, aiming to raise awareness about the safety concerns faced by medical professionals in their line of duty. The demonstration is scheduled for Monday in solidarity with similar movements across the country.
