Russian military bloggers are criticizing Russia’s military leadership after a video circulating online showed a destroyed military convoy in the Kursk region, allegedly by Ukrainian shelling. The footage displayed damaged military trucks with what seemed to be burned bodies of Russian military personnel sent as reinforcements against Ukrainian forces. BBC Verify later confirmed the video’s authenticity through geolocation.
War bloggers blamed the convoy’s destruction on a U.S.-made HIMARS rocket system and condemned the command for the incident. Some called for severe punishment for those responsible for the column movement, with one blogger suggesting executions for organizing soldiers’ movements in columns.
Despite the criticism, the Russian pro-war Telegram channel Rybar, with over 1.2 million subscribers, emphasized that such decisions do not reflect the General Staff’s level of competence. The incident highlighted the chaotic situation of hastily mobilizing reserves, as observed by other military bloggers.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) reportedly arrested a Kursk resident for recording the destroyed convoy, further adding to the controversy surrounding the incident.
