Empowering Smallholder Farmers Across Nigeria: AUDA-NEPAD Initiative
The African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development Nigeria, under the leadership of CEO Gloria Akobundu, has launched an initiative to support smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Seven states, including Nasarawa, Cross River, Imo, Abia, Kano, and Kebbi, have been identified for the first phase of this program.
The goal of this initiative is to address food supply challenges and enhance local agricultural production. Akobundu emphasized the importance of collaboration and resource mobilization to advance Africa’s agricultural and environmental goals, as outlined in Agenda 2063.
Mr. Benjamin Uche, from AUDA-NEPAD Continental in South Africa, highlighted the project’s focus on empowering smallholder farmers to combat climate change and food insecurity. The funds allocated will help improve food security and support the livelihoods of farmers in the selected states.
The engagement emphasized the crucial role of stakeholders in driving sustainable development and fostering resilient partnerships. The commitment of state governments, local stakeholders, and organizations like AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria is essential to the success of this initiative.
