The minister said that the project also serves important strategic purposes of the nation
The under-construction Silkyara tunnel project collapsed last year, plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of the region and provides connectivity to Yamunotri throughout the year, as per Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
Gadkari highlighted that the project has strategic importance for the nation apart from its economic benefits.
In response to queries from Lok Sabha MPs, Gadkari mentioned that the construction includes an escape passage as mandated by the cabinet committee.
The tunnel, part of the Char Dham Mahamarg Pariyojana, will facilitate all-weather connectivity and reduce travel time significantly, benefiting pilgrims and locals alike.
