Mozambique takes a significant step in public health as it rolls out the malaria vaccine in the central province of Zambezia. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to eliminating one of the major causes of hospitalization and mortality in the country.
Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, announced that the vaccine will be administered to children aged between six and 11 months. The vaccination schedule includes multiple doses to ensure optimal protection against malaria.
The country has invested significantly in the acquisition and distribution of the vaccine, showing a commitment to combatting malaria. With 800,000 doses available, the rollout will begin in Zambezia province and extend nationwide in the coming year.
The Ministry of Health highlighted the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, with successful deployments seen in other African countries like Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi. The goal is to protect vulnerable populations, especially children under five, from the devastating impact of malaria.
