Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is set to lead Bangladesh’s transitional government following the departure of prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The decision was made after a meeting between President Mohammed Shahabuddin, army officials, and student leaders.
Despite his initial hesitation towards politics, Yunus accepted the role to aid his country in a time of need. Born in Chittagong, Yunus is known for his microcredit concept that helped eradicate poverty in Bangladesh through the Grameen Bank.

Yunus, often called the “banker to the poor,” faced opposition from Hasina when considering a political party. Despite legal battles and accusations, Yunus welcomed Hasina’s departure, equating it to Bangladesh’s second liberation.
