In an address to the nation, Bangladesh’s army chief Waker-Uz-Zaman has announced the formation of an interim government following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman also stated that he would seek guidance from the president on establishing the new government and assured the public that justice would be served for those killed during recent anti-government protests.
He urged students to remain calm and promised to investigate all the deaths that occurred during the demonstrations.
Hasina’s reported departure has raised concerns about potential instability, but experts believe a peaceful transition to an interim government could limit the risks.
