Iran’s Right to Respond to Israeli Assassination of Hamas Leader
In a recent interview, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s top human rights official, stated that Iran has the right to respond to the assassination of senior Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran. The assassination, which took place alongside one of his bodyguards, has been blamed on Israel.
Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran is entitled to deliver an appropriate response in line with international law, particularly Article 51 of the UN Charter on self-defense. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to avenging Haniyeh’s death, warning of a harsh response to Israel’s actions.
Highlighting Israel’s past aggressions against Iran, Gharibabadi condemned the regime’s systematic acts of sabotage and targeted killings of Iranian nationals. He also criticized Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing that these actions only showcase the regime’s weakness and failure to achieve its strategic goals.
In light of these events, Iran stands firm in its resolve to defend itself against Israeli aggression and uphold its commitment to justice and human rights.
