The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has expressed his intention to become the Olubadan of Ibadan in a recent radio interview. As the most senior High Chief and next in line for the throne, Ladoja announced his plan to ascend to the position of Olubadan and become a beaded crown monarch in Ibadanland.
Ladoja, speaking in Yoruba, stated, “By the grace of God, I will become Olubadan. God has been merciful to me.” He emphasized that whoever is destined to become Olubadan will do so, regardless of obstacles.
This decision is significant in light of recent tensions stemming from the amended Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, signed into law by Governor Seyi Makinde. The new law replaces the requirement for the most senior High Chief to be proposed as a candidate with the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in the line.
Ladoja’s willingness to accept the ceremonial beaded crown reflects the voice of the people of Ibadan and their desire for a smooth succession process. This move is crucial for maintaining peace and order in the region.
