Israel Announces Killing of Senior Hamas Commander in Gaza Strike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the assassination of Mohammed Deif, the chief of Hamas’ military wing, in an airstrike in Khan Yunis on July 13. This announcement follows the recent assassination of Hamas’ political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran.
The strike in Gaza also reportedly targeted Rafa Salameh, the leader of Hamas forces in Khan Younis, with Deif’s death only being confirmed now. A video released by the IDF shows the missile attack that eliminated Deif.
Hamas has not officially acknowledged Deif’s death, and the airstrike resulted in the deaths of at least 90 people and injuries to around 300 others in Khan Younis.
Deif, likened to “the Osama Bin Laden of Gaza” by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, was instrumental in orchestrating numerous terrorist attacks against Israel as part of Hamas.
The killing of both Deif and Haniyeh has escalated tensions in the region, with Iran threatening revenge on Israel. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate the aftermath of these high-profile assassinations.
