In the early hours of August 1, Russian oppositionist Ilya Ponomarev was injured in a drone attack in Kyiv. Ponomarev is a former Russian politician who opposed the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and later moved to the US. In 2019, he received Ukrainian citizenship from President Petro Poroshenko.
Ponomarev described the recent drone attack as the fifth attempted attack and the most unconventional. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the launch of Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Shahed attack UAVs from Russia and Crimea. Seven drones were successfully brought down by Kyiv’s air defense systems in various regions.
Unfortunately, a man and a woman were injured by falling debris from the drones, and two private houses in the Kyiv region were damaged. The roofs and facades of the buildings were destroyed, along with broken windows and doors. This incident highlights the ongoing conflict in the region and the danger posed by military attacks.
The resilience of Ukraine’s air defense forces in defending against such threats is commendable, but the impact of the attacks on civilians underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.\
