Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has proposed firing Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and replacing him with Andrei Belousov, according to the Telegram channel of the Russian parliament’s upper house. Belousov, a former economy minister, aide to Putin, and deputy prime minister, has been nominated for the position. Shoigu has faced criticism for his handling of the war effort in Ukraine.
Following Putin’s decision, Shoigu will now serve as the secretary of Russia’s security council, replacing Nikolai Patrushev. This recent shift in leadership comes amidst ongoing tensions and developments in the region.
