Islamic Republic of Iran Ready to Send Aid to Flood-Hit Northern Afghanistan
Following devastating flash floods in northern Afghanistan that claimed the lives of over 300 people, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian president’s special envoy to Afghanistan, has expressed Iran’s readiness to send humanitarian aid to the affected regions. Iran is prepared to provide relief teams, medical aid, and other necessary items through the Red Crescent and Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation upon Afghanistan’s officials’ request. Kazemi Qomi stressed the importance of swift decision-making in accepting humanitarian aid to prevent delays similar to those experienced during the Zendeh Jan earthquake in Herat Province.
Multiple cities and villages in northern Afghanistan, particularly Baghlan province, were severely impacted by the floods, leading to numerous fatalities, missing individuals, and destroyed homes. Despite being ravaged by war and poverty, Afghanistan’s defense ministry has deployed emergency personnel to rescue and assist those affected.
