The Brazilian government is prioritizing the verification of election results before extending congratulations, as reported by Agencia Brasil.
The Itamaraty Palace emphasized the importance of transparency and legitimacy in the electoral process, stating that all minutes must be released by the Venezuelan National Electoral Council before any formal acknowledgment. Brazil commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and is closely monitoring the counting process.
Representatives from Brazil, including Presidential Advisor Celso Amorim, were present in Caracas during the election. The international community remains divided on recognizing the election outcome, with calls for publication of detailed results by countries like Colombia, the United States, the European Union, and Brazil.
Maduro has urged foreign powers to respect the election results, citing the robust electoral system in Venezuela. While skepticism surrounds Venezuelan elections, recent observations have not identified significant irregularities. Brazil’s stance reflects a commitment to democratic values and integrity in election processes.
