Paris Olympics Sabotage: Arrests Underway as Infrastructure Targeted
Recent sabotage targeting telecommunication lines in France has caused disruptions amid the Paris Olympics. The French police announced that fibre optic networks of several operators were sabotaged in six areas of France. This comes after the country’s rail network was also targeted.
Telecom operators such as Bouygues and Free confirmed service interruptions, with reports of vandalism on installations belonging to SFR. Marina Ferrari, overseeing digital affairs, condemned these acts and thanked repair teams. Internet watchdog NetBlocks confirmed the disruptions.
The sabotage on the telecom networks followed arson attacks on France’s high-speed rail network, disrupting travel for many, including athletes. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin mentioned arrests and suspects linked to far-left groups. In response, security measures have been heightened across the rail network.
‘Fake news’ Allegations
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed claims of Russian involvement, labelling them as “fake news”. He criticized Western media for baseless accusations against Russia.
