Gaza on the Verge of Health Catastrophe Amid Israeli Invasion
Gaza health authorities are sounding the alarm as the only operational hospital in Khan Yunis may close down due to Israel’s ongoing offensive in the region. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that the situation could lead to a “definitive health disaster.”
Israel’s military offensive around Khan Younis has resulted in the death of approximately 170 people and left hundreds wounded. Residents in the southern neighborhoods were forced to evacuate as the military intensified its operations in the area, displacing nearly 150,000 people.
The Gaza Health Ministry highlighted the dire conditions faced by displaced persons, with limited access to water, inadequate hygiene supplies, and the risk of diseases such as polio spreading rapidly. The ministry warned about potential outbreaks and emphasized the urgency of the situation.
The World Health Organization has dispatched over a million polio vaccines to Gaza amidst concerns of a potential outbreak. The Nasser Medical Complex, the only operational hospital in Khan Younis, is overwhelmed with patients, raising fears of the healthcare system collapsing.
As the conflict persists, the casualties among Palestinians continue to rise, with thousands injured and killed since the offensive began.
