Germany’s Closure of Islamic Centers in Hamburg Serves Israeli Interests, Iran Says
Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani criticized Germany’s decision to shut down the Islamic Center Hamburg and its subsidiary organizations, labeling it as a political move that benefits the Israeli regime. In a phone conversation with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Kani condemned the closure as violating human rights principles and fueling Islamophobia.
The German Interior Ministry justified the ban by alleging that the Islamic Center Hamburg supported Hezbollah and spread anti-Semitism. This ban also includes the closure of four Shia mosques, including Hamburg’s Blue Mosque.
Despite this, Baerbock encouraged Islamic centers to seek legal redress and expressed hope for resolution through dialogue. However, Kani criticized the German authorities for infringing on religious freedom and warned that such actions empower extremists and terrorists.
Iran views Germany’s move as a threat to religious freedom and advocates for a diplomatic resolution to the situation. The closure of these centers has sparked international debate and condemnation.
