Trump’s pick for adviser on Ukraine pushed idea of ‘ceding land’ to Russia: report

Donald Trump’s new pick for special envoy for Ukraine and Russia has a plan to end the war between the two countries that has as of yet not been tested: pressure Ukraine to cede territory to Russia, according to new reports.

The details of the policy plan drawn up by retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg – who Trump named Wednesday to the special envoy role – were handed over to Trump in June, according to Axios. Under the plan, Trump is urged to tell Ukraine that engaging in peace talks with Russia will be the only way it can continue receiving more U.S. weapons, Reuters reported.

“The United States would continue to arm Ukraine and strengthen its defenses to ensure Russia will make no further advances and will not attack again after a cease-fire or peace agreement,” according to Axios. The plan was authored by Kellogg and Fred Fleitz, who both served as chiefs of staff in Trump’s National Security Council during his first term.

The publication added that to convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to join peace talks the plan calls for: “President Biden and other NATO leaders should offer to put off NATO membership for Ukraine for an extended period in exchange for a comprehensive and verifiable peace deal with security guarantees.”

Trump has repeatedly promised to end the war but has not provided details of how he would do so.

The incoming president wrote Wednesday in a Truth Social post announcing Kellogg as his selection that he comes with a “distinguished Military and Business career, including serving in highly sensitive National Security roles in my first Administration.”

“He was with me right from the beginning! Trump said. “Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!”
