Death toll rises to 99 in ongoing sectarian clashes in Pakistan

The police in Pakistan have announced that the death toll from sectarian clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has risen to 99.

On Tuesday, November 26, Islamabad Post reported that clashes between tribes had occurred again the previous night.

Pakistani police stated that as a result of overnight gunfire between tribes in the region, 10 people were killed and 21 others were injured.

According to the police, the fighting between the two sides is currently ongoing in three areas, and the death toll has now risen to 99.

The police also added that at least 156 others have been injured due to the clashes.

Security officials in the region noted that the disputes are related to the exchange of hostages and bodies.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media reported that the roads leading to the affected areas have been blocked for the sixth consecutive day.

RELATED NEWS

These sectarian clashes began last Thursday when unknown gunmen attacked a Shia pilgrims’ convoy in Parachinar, resulting in the deaths of at least 43 people.

The ongoing violence highlights the deep-rooted sectarian tensions in the region, which have been exacerbated by recent attacks. The conflict has led to significant loss of life, and local authorities are struggling to control the situation.

Efforts to resolve the dispute, particularly concerning the exchange of prisoners and the recovery of bodies, have proven difficult, with no signs of immediate de-escalation.

The international community has expressed concern over the growing violence and the need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further bloodshed.
