Aussie man missing for weeks after disappearing on mountain hike in Albania

An Australian man has gone missing in the European nation of Albania after heading out on a mountain hike.

Cameron Twiss, 28, from Burnside in Adelaide’s west, was last seen almost six weeks ago on October 13.

He went out to walk a trail between Valbona and Theth, in the nation’s north, Kosovo Mountain Search and Rescue said on Facebook last month.

But his belongings were found at a hostel in Shkodra after he failed to return.

The organisation appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

The Valbona to Theth hike is 15km and takes up to eight hours.

A search at the start of the month ‘in the suspected areas where tourists encounter the most difficulties failed to find him,” according to reports.

His family told 9News they’ve just returned home to Adelaide after searching the area themselves and putting up missing person posters.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian reported missing in Albania.
