Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, emphasized on Tuesday that Iraq has firmly rejected going to war and that it would continue to provide aid to the people in Palestine and Lebanon.
Al-Sudani’s statement took place during a cabinet meeting held to discuss the latest developments in the country, important issues in different fields, and the progress made in the government’s agenda, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
As the meeting addressed regional developments, Al-Sudani explained that Israel’s message to the UN Security Council is only a cover for attacking Iraq and advancing its continuous attempts to deepen the conflict in the region.
The Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized that the country rejects Israel’s threats and that the Iraqi state alone has the authority to decide whether to go to war or not.
Al-Sudani also ordered the Iraqi National Security Council (INSC) to hold an urgent meeting to reaffirm the Iraqi position and monitor developments.
The Iraqi Prime Minister’s remarks come after the Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, announced on Monday that he sent a letter to the president of the UN Security Council in which he called for immediate action regarding the activity of the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, whose territory is being used to attack Israel.
Saar said via X that Israel has the right to defend itself under the UN charter and that Iraq is responsible under international law to prevent the use of its territory as a base for attacks against other nations.
At a military facility in the Golan Heights, a part of Syria that Israel occupies, two Israeli soldiers were killed and 24 others were injured in a drone strike launched from Iraq in early October
