Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, said on Monday that the Iraqi government aims to promote trade with Turkey, given the rapid growth in the industrial sector in Iraq.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during his meeting with the Turkish Minister of Trade, Omer Bolat, who is on a two-day visit to Iraq seeking to boost economic relations between the two countries, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Bolat is accompanied by a large delegation of around 150 businessmen from the Turkish Contractors Association (TCA) and the Turkey Exporters Council on his official visit to Iraq, which includes stops in Basra and Baghdad.
The Iraqi Prime Minister highlighted Iraq’s willingness to establish a genuine and serious relationship with Turkey in a number of areas, given the government’s implementation of a set of economic reforms that have improved the country’s business climate.
The two sides also talked about the Iraqi-Turkish Economic and Trade Committee’s next meeting, which will be held in two weeks.
Iraq and Turkey maintain a significant and complex trade relationship, characterized by a substantial exchange of goods and strategic economic interdependence.
In 2022, Turkey emerged as a major trading partner for Iraq, with Turkey exporting approximately $13.7 billion worth of goods to Iraq, while Iraq’s exports to Turkey totaled around $1.32 billion.
