Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that efforts are underway to end the prolonged conflict between Ukraine and Russia through diplomatic channels by next year.
In an interview with Ukrainian Radio on Saturday, November 16, Zelensky said, “This war must end next year through diplomatic means, and we are doing everything we can to achieve this goal.”
According to Zelensky, Ukraine has no issue with ending the war in 2025 through negotiations. He added, “Moscow also has no problem negotiating while still engaged in war.”
Recently, Russia has shown some willingness to explore ways to end the war but has emphasized the realities of the battlefield. Moscow has demanded that Kyiv cede occupied territories in line with battlefield outcomes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his latest call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday, conditioned peace negotiations on safeguarding Russia’s interests in the ongoing conflict.
Both sides appear to acknowledge the possibility of diplomatic engagement, though key differences remain on territorial control and terms of any potential settlement.
The prospect of peace in Ukraine hinges on complex negotiations where territorial disputes and national security concerns dominate the agenda. While diplomatic discussions offer hope, the road to resolution remains fraught with challenges.
