Western Bahr el-Ghazal State legislators have ordered the State Minister for Housing and Public Utilities and the directors general for Power and Electricity, and the Trinity Company to appear before parliament to explain the lack of power supply in Wau Town.
Addressing the press at the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, House Spokesperson Joseph Mawut Athian said the MPs had been bombarded with public inquiries since the launch of the power operation in July, yet the whole town still lacked supply.
Today, we want to announce to our listeners in Western Bahr el-Ghazal State that on Monday 18, November 2024, the Minister for Housing and Public Utilities, and the directors general for Power and Electricity, and the Trinity Company, will appear before parliament to answer questions related to the electricity supply in Western Bahr el-Ghazal State,” said Athian.
The public were raising many complaints on seeing the power lines, with no supply reaching them. The southern parts remain in darkness with power only available along the streets to the north, particularly in Daraja, he said.
“There are some parts in the north like Gerinti, Bilpham and Sika-Hadid that do not have power,” he said.
The spokesperson also said the Roads minister and his Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies counterpart and the Mayor of Wau would also appear before parliament over the Kaburi Sita (bridge), which was reportedly in a bad shape.
“The second summon will take place on Tuesday next week. The minister for Roads and Bridges, along with the minister for Local Government and Wau Town Mayor, will also come to answer question about the Kaburi Sita, which broke down and we are not seeing any progress made by the ministry of Roads and Bridges or the municipality,” he said.
“We want to know from them what is going on about Kaburi Sita, who is responsible for it because we are just hearing about it in the media and are not seeing any side taking the responsibility for the repairs,” he said.
Athian said the public would be invited to the hearings.
“The summon is a public hearing. These are issues related to the public rights and all are welcome, to the assembly,” he added.
