Pakistani media reported that four people, including a tribal elder, were killed and several others injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Balochistan’s Wadh area.
The tribal elder and his guards were traveling from Quetta to Karachi when the incident occurred.
According to a report by Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper on Friday, November 15, police in Khuzdar stated that clashes between the tribal elder’s guards and the armed attackers were ongoing, leading to the closure of the Quetta-Karachi highway to traffic.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, similar incidents in the region are often attributed to Baloch separatist insurgents targeting security forces and pro-government figures.
In a separate development, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson strongly urged the Taliban to take immediate and serious action against members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from hideouts in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson warned the Taliban not to “test the patience of the Pakistani people,” emphasizing that Pakistan’s repeated concerns must be addressed to avoid further strain in bilateral relations.
The Afghan Taliban, however, have denied these allegations, claiming they do not harbor TTP militants or allow Afghanistan soil to be used against Pakistan. Despite these denials, tensions between the two nations have escalated due to rising militant attacks in Pakistan, many of which Islamabad blames on TTP factions based in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, India has been deepening its engagement with the Taliban in recent months. This includes economic cooperation, humanitarian aid, and diplomatic discussions to stabilize Afghanistan and protect its regional interests.
The ongoing violence in Balochistan, coupled with Islamabad’s strained ties with the Afghan Taliban, reflects the complex security challenges facing Pakistan. The government’s firm stance against TTP militants and its warnings to the Taliban underscore the urgency of addressing cross-border militancy.
India’s growing engagement with the Taliban further adds to the evolving dynamics in the region. By fostering ties with Afghanistan’s rulers, India seeks to strengthen its regional presence, potentially shifting the balance of power in South Asia.
These developments highlight the fragile state of peace and security in the region, with competing interests from neighboring nations shaping the future of Afghanistan and its relations with Pakistan. Collaborative efforts and constructive dialogue remain crucial for mitigating tensions and ensuring stability.
