Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) delivered a threat to any Republican who might break rank on confirming Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as Donald Trump’s next attorney general: MAGA will come for your job.
“I don’t know, you’re finding all the swamp creatures coming out right now” to oppose Gaetz’s nomination, Tuberville said Wednesday evening on Fox Business. “Everybody’s got an opinion up here but at the end of the day, President Trump was elected by an enormous vote, and he deserves the team around him that he wants. It’s not up to us to determine that.”
“You are not the United States of America,” he continued. “You have one vote in the U.S. Senate. You did not get elected president. Vote with President Trump. This is the last chance we’re going to have to save this country. And if you want to get in the way, fine. But we’re going to try to get you out of the Senate, too, if you try to do that.”

Gaetz, who resigned from Congress shortly after his name was announced, has become highly controversial even within his own party. He was investigated by the FBI in a child sex trafficking case, and while he was ultimately never charged and denies all allegations, has for months been the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation, which is looking at not only the trafficking accusation but reports of illegal drug use, campaign finance violations, and other offenses.
A vote on whether to release the report to the public was expected later this week prior to his departure.
While Tuberville and some other MAGA lawmakers have forcefully defended Trump’s right to appoint Gaetz, other Republicans have expressed aghast at the nomination and are weighing how to move forward.
