The Guardian has announced it will stop posting on social media platform X.
In a statement, the British media outlet expressed concerns over the growing negativity and extremism on the site, which it believes now outweighs the benefits for sharing journalism and engaging with audiences.
The decision comes amid rising scrutiny of X, particularly during last week’s US presidential election.
The Guardian has criticized the rise of harmful content, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.
It links these to changes made by Elon Musk since he acquired the platform in 2022.
The newspaper emphasized that its resources would be better spent on other platforms.
While The Guardian’s official editorial accounts will no longer be active on X, articles can still be shared by users.
The paper has also noted that X content may occasionally appear in news reports when relevant.
