The World Food Program (WFP) announced a $3.3 million aid contribution from France to Afghanistan.
On Wednesday, November 13, the agency stated that France has donated $3.3 million to improve nutrition for mothers (pregnant and nursing mothers) and children in Afghanistan.
The WFP noted that this aid will be used to improve the nutrition of 60,000 children and mothers across Afghanistan.
The WFP statement noted, “Due to the funding crisis, this year the World Food Program could not provide food assistance to prevent malnutrition for two million women and children.”
The WFP has warned that Afghanistan is at risk of falling into an emergency level of malnutrition, adding that due to funding shortages, it had to cut food assistance to 10 million people last year alone.
Afghanistan is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions of people suffering from hunger, lack of medical care, and insufficient resources.
This crisis is particularly affecting vulnerable groups, including women and children, who face heightened risks of malnutrition and poor health.
Without urgent international support, the WFP and other humanitarian agencies may struggle to prevent further deterioration, leaving countless Afghan families in critical need of food and basic resources for survival.
