A Perth great-grandmother who turns 110 on Monday has revealed her secret to a long life but, it’s not what you might expect.
Bridget Grocke swears by the more commonly known things like eating healthy but she also has a surprising trick on the list: drinking a can of beer every day.
For the last 60 years Grocke’s sunk a can of Emu Export a day, claiming her beloved WA beer is what has kept her beautiful.

“If there was a whole heap of beer and someone said ‘which one’s your favourite?’ Naturally, I’d have to say that,” Grocke said.
The soon-to-be supercentenarian – a term given to those reaching 110 – also shared her other tips for a long and happy life: Eating healthy, having a big family, being kind and not taking life too seriously.
“I think that if you’re nice to people they’ll be nice to you,” Grocke said.
The birthday girl’s daughter Jan Robertson said her mum has “a great sense of humour”, which keeps her young at heart.

When asked what her favourite brew tasted like in the morning, she responded cheekily with “beer!”.
Monday’s party is more than a century in the making and, in that time, Grocke’s seen 21 prime ministers, lived through both world wars and had letters from both King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Grocke’s not Australia’s oldest person, that title belongs to Lorna Henstridge, who is also 110 but older by five months.
Ahead of Grocke’s birthday, she had a visit from her local member on Wednesday and the party doesn’t stop there.
There’s a family bash planned on Sunday, before a third party with her friends on Monday undoubtedly all featuring lots of lagers, lifted to a long and lovely life.
