A middle-aged farmer identified only as Paulo was killed by unidentified criminals at his garden in the outskirt of Chukudum town of Eastern Equatoria State’s Budi County.
The killing on Sunday was reportedly committed by a group of seven criminals alleged to be from Logir in Ikotos County.
Local authorities told Radio Tamazuj that the footmarks indicated that the suspects entered the Kideopo Valley of Ikotos County.
Last week, a woman was killed at her home by unknown criminals in Monita Village of BUDI County.
Budi County member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly Charles Longoli said the incident happened early in the morning.
He called on government to investigate the matter and hold the perpetrators accountable to avert revenge attacks.
One person was found dead in his garden and the footmarks following a pursuit indicated the suspected killer entered the Kideopo Valley, Longoli said.
“We have had several peace talks to address this issue of insecurity because we need to share our Kideopo resources,” he added.
Budi County Executive Director Alfred Odong confirmed the incident, and accused the neighboring Logir youth of carrying out the attack.
Odong said security forces, together with the area youth, followed the footmarks of the seven suspected killers entering the Kideopo Valley.
Ikotos County Commissioner Timon Loboi also confirmed the incident, saying the local chiefs had been tasked to identify the suspects to face justice.
