Ministry of Environment receives Esri SAG Award for excellence in GIS

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad received the SAG Award by Esri, a global leader in geographic information systems (GIS), in recognition of the Ministry of Environment’s excellence in applying GIS for the protection and management of biodiversity.

The award, which was presented at a ceremony held in a hotel in Cairo, celebrates successful projects implemented by Esri partners worldwide using GIS to analyze complex data and find innovative solutions to challenges.

The ceremony was attended by Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) CEO Ali Abu Senah, CEO of Esri North Africa Hashem Hemida and other senior officials.

The minister highlighted the Environment Ministry’s commitment to digital transformation and applying modern technologies in the environmental fields.

“The Environment Ministry is exerting utmost effort to achieve President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s vision towards environmental protection and sustainable resource management.”

The minister explained that the award recognizes the ministry’s successful implementation of a project to govern the system of monitoring and documenting biodiversity in Egypt’s nature reserves.

Fouad shed light on various environmental monitoring systems developed by the ministry, including those for air and water quality.

Meanwhile, Fouad emphasized the role of digital transformation in enabling institutions to become more efficient and effective.

She further expressed her gratitude to the ministry’s team and to Esri for their contributions.

Esri is the global market leader in geographic information system (GIS) software, location intelligence, and mapping.

Since 1969, Esri has supported customers with geographic science and geospatial analytics, what is called” The Science of Where”.
