A member of Donald Trump’s inner circle has set up a site to crowdsource MAGA on who President Donald Trump should appoint to his next Cabinet, Mother Jones reported on Friday.
Ally Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been central to building the site, according to the report.
“Trump has stated that he was not able to ‘drain the swamp’ during his first term, and he’s welcomed Bobby’s expertise in getting the job done in his second term,” says the “About” page for the site, which allows anyone to submit names and vote on the most popular nominees for several departments.
“But Bobby cannot do this alone, so he is now turning to the wisdom and expertise of his supporters.”
As an example, noted the report, a leading candidate in the category for “food and agriculture” is Zen Honeycutt, another conspiracy theorist activist who heads up Moms Across America, a group that blames the proliferation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in agriculture on a variety of health problems.
Honeycutt is a former supporter of the Democratic Party, who now supports Trump.
“In such a position, her goal, she explained, would be to rid the food supply of what she sees as toxins: pesticides — including the ubiquitous weedkiller glyphosate — food dyes, and genetically modified ingredients,” reported Kiera Butler. “She blames these impurities for rising autism and Alzheimer’s disease rates, as well as infertility, which she believes is in some ways a more pressing issue than abortion.”
With the possible exception of some food dyes, none of these claims have any scientific basis.
Other people with high votes on the site for appointments to the Department of Health and Human Services include Dr. Simone Gold, a COVID conspiracy theorist who pushed discredited hydroxycholorquine treatments and served time in jail for the January 6 insurrection, and Sherri Tenpenny, an activist who falsely claims vaccines turn people magnetic and who is being sued by the federal government over $650,000 in allegedly back-owed taxes.
Kennedy himself is an infamous vaccine denier who has vowed the Trump administration will push for the removal of fluoride from municipal water, despite the fact that public health data overwhelmingly supports it as important for dental health.
