Thai PM apologizes for Muslim massacre 20 years on

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has issued a heartfelt apology for the tragic 2004 Tak Bai massacre, where 78 Muslims lost their lives during her father’s tenure.

Apologizing on behalf of the government, she acknowledged the grave injustice that occurred after the arrest of six village defense volunteers, sparking deadly protests and a brutal crackdown.

Activists and Thai Muslims recently paid tribute to the victims by organizing a cycling event along the same route taken during the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and seeking justice to prevent such atrocities in the future.

As Thailand marked the anniversary, the 20-year statute of limitations on the case came to an end, signaling the maximum time for legal proceedings to be initiated.
